William Hampton Brand was born in 1952 in Hartsville, S.C. At 9 years of age he began studying art. After a few months, his teacher explained that he understood the basics and he should keep painting from his heart. At that time, he received special recognition from the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston.
He followed his teacher's advice and developed his own self-taught style; mixing all of his colors, using only white and the three primary colors. Today, as he walks the streets of Charleston, he is captured by its beauty and history. That's what he chooses to paint. Rainbow Row and the High Battery mansions are his most sought after paintings. He loves to share Charleston and its history through his art. His gallery is now located at his home.
